He is an avid outdoorsman and loves anything that involves being out in nature; hunting, fishing, hiking, and snowboarding are some of his favorite things. He is an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. While attending Norwich he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Naval ROTC, and the varsity Rifle team as well as many other extra-curricular activities. He is known as a Jack-of-All-Trades with the ability to fix or build almost anything and enjoys projects. He is also an avid sports fan of the local professional teams. The Boston Bruins are his favorite, followed closely by the Red Sox, the Patriots, and the Revolution. He is loving, caring, generous, and strong; physically, emotionally, and mentally. He is very even-keeled, has a great sense of humor, and always looks on the bright side of things.

Hi, I am Jason

Jason’s Favorite things

Barbecuing

One of my favorite things to do is barbecuing and smoking meats on my grill and smoker. Whether it’s just cooking up a few burgers and dogs on a summer afternoon or grilling a nice piece of fish for dinner, being in front of the grill is one of my most happy places. When smoking, I will usually cook a couple racks of ribs or beer-can chickens or “meat lollipops”, which are chicken drumsticks that eat like lollipops. I have even started smoking the annual Easter Ham for dinner that Brenda and I host for our family. I love getting everything ready, starting the fire and keeping it going for hours as the smoke fills the neighborhood making everything smell delicious. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy a cool fall day during football season. Everyone seems to love my cooking and, like the Arby’s commercial, we say “Jay has the meats!”

sports

Having grown up in New England I have become a huge sports fan of all the local professional sports teams. In order of fandom, I love the Boston Bruins (hockey) the most, followed by the Boston Red Sox (baseball), New England Patriots (football), New England Revolution (soccer) and lastly the Boston Celtics (basketball). I am such a big fan of the Bruins that I start growing my playoff beard at the beginning of the season as a superstition with hopes of them winning the Stanley cup. It has become such a tradition that everyone knows there are two versions of me. There’s “Summer Jay” where I am clean shaven and buzz my hair during the Red Sox season and there’s “Winter Jay” where I stop shaving and cutting my hair and go fully mountain man in support of the Bruins.

Legos

I have loved Legos since my early childhood. When I was younger my family had a huge drawer in the finished basement that was filled to the brim with loose Legos and fully or partially built models. My brothers and I would spend hours together building anything we could think of. Sometimes working together to build the biggest tower or separately to see who could build the fastest or toughest vehicle. I still love Legos to this day. My family knows that if they are having trouble thinking of a gift for me, they can never go wrong with getting me a cool new Lego set. I really like the Star Wars sets and anything that goes with motorsports like cool race vehicles and exotic cars.

Outdoors

I really enjoy being outside in nature in all seasons, taking in the fresh air, sunshine and the wildlife. I like to go hiking, hunting, fishing and snowboarding. When we go to New Hampshire we always find trails and hikes to do. There’s nothing like being on top of a mountain, looking out over the world and seeing the towns and rivers and valleys below. It feels like such a great accomplishment to scale a mountain on the trail, following the babbling streams, passing beautiful waterfalls, to emerge from the trees into the sunlight and find the summit. Being out on the water in a boat with a rod in my hand trying to hook a big fish is another of my favorite pastimes. I love relaxing as the gentle swells rock the boat waiting for something I can cook up for dinner to bite my hook.

Motorsports

I am a huge fan of motorsports and especially drag racing. I have been going to the NHRA event at New England Dragway since I was 18 years old. My brothers and I would make the yearly pilgrimage to the track for at least one day of the three-day long event. It’s such a great experience to watch these miracles of engineering scream down the track at over 300 miles an hour and go ¼ mile in under 4 seconds. You can actually feel the 10,000 horsepower of the engines as it makes the ground shake and you feel the power throughout your whole body. Walking around the pit area you get to watch the crews rebuild the cars after each run and then start them up filling the area with nitro, one of my favorite smells of all time. Bringing someone who has never been to the races is so much fun. I love watching them react to everything with such a look of wonder on their faces.
